Preparing plants for the move

You can not take plants just like any other luggage. It needs a month long preparation. Below is the advance plan and procedure that is essential for moving plants.

•Three weeks before moving day: Transfer the plants from clay pots to unbreakable plastic ones.  The new pot should be big enough to hold the plant.

•Two weeks before moving day: Prune larger plants to help them packing. Pruning is really easy. You simply pinch back the newer growth with your thumb and forefinger.

•One week before moving day: With careful use of insecticides eliminate insects and parasites from the plants.

•Two days before the moving day: Water the plants normally. Over watering may cause the plants to freeze or fungus may grow on them during transit.

•Moving day: Pack your plants this morning or the night before. Conventional packing cartons will do for packing the plants.  A dish pack which has dishes or glass compartments is really good for the plants.  

The plants inside the box should be anchored properly. Otherwise they tend to slip. Place some paper at the bottom of the pot. Also cushion the branches and leaves with soft paper.
Punch some holes on the sides of the box and fasten the lids loosely. Mark outside that the box has a plant inside. Otherwise you may end up your dear plant box getting mixed up with the furniture.

Pack and load the plants just before you depart.
