Moving With a Teenager

A task as simple as getting your child out of bed can become a surmounting task for many parents. Being so, do we have to say anything about handling the teenagers when moving?
Teenagers are more sensitive to relocation issue than adults and kids. Understanding the reasons behind this predictable yet so unpredictable behavior of the teenagers is essential if we have to move with them.

When they are in Junior high and high school, these budding adults formulate their own social circle after putting in more effort. The process of ‘fitting in’ to these peer groups is highly time consuming and absorbs a lot of mental energy. Teenagers treasure these friends and hangout places very much that they identify themselves with them. Any change in these is unacceptable to these adolescents. Moreover they will raise their objection at full volume and may even try to cajole you against relocating.

Also in a teenager’s life everything is changing, their voice, their clothes their roles and responsibilities. Hence they very much desire for a stable home. When we inform them about the move, their whole world shatters.
With the understanding of these complex social and psychological issues your dear teenagers are facing, you should be patient enough to their slamming of the doors and keep lines of communication open.
