How to Pack for a Local Move
How to Pack for a Local Shift
Packing for a local move may seem easy, especially if you are moving within the city. Unless you plan your packing well it may take quite a while to settle down and find the every day things you need.
You need to start planning your packing depending on the amount of time you have before moving day. It is good to begin with the least used things in the home and areas such as the attic and the basement. This also gives you a chance to sort through things you may not want to take along to the new house. Once you are ready to pack it is important that you have good and adequate packing material such as cartons, bubble wrap and sealing tape. Every time you begin to pack a box or carton you need to maintain a list of things that have been packed in it. This will make it easier and faster for you to unpack at your new house. You may also stick a list of contents on the carton. This will ensure that cartons containing fragile items and breakables are handled with care.
It is a good idea to pack one room at a time. Doing so makes it easier when you reach your destination as you will only need to unpack a few cartons to settle an entire room. If possible pack breakables such as crockery and electronic appliances in their original packing. If these are unavailable then you may want to cover them well with bubble wrap and pack them in an appropriate size carton or box.
When packing your wardrobe or dresser, pack the contents of each unit in its own suitcase or box so that you can put the items back into the unit they came from without having to sort them again. When you are getting a desk ready for moving, it is a good idea to empty its drawers and keep all the things together in a carton so that you can replace them later. While packing the kitchen you can pack canned food and dry ingredients in a carton. You can pack the crockery and cutlery that is used daily the last.
It is a good idea to begin packing much in advance rather than postpone packing for a local move until the last few days. Moving is a physically and emotionally exhausting process and if you can pack a certain amount every day, much ahead of moving day, it will help ease the stress.
